Moving Music – A Trip To The Orchestra 🎶

Miss Smales and the WSSC Music Dept took 13 Music Performance Students from Clifton and 28 students from Wickersley to Bridgewater Hall (Manchester) to watch the Halle Orchestra perform several set works from the GCSE Music specification.

The performance, ‘The Orchestra Through The Ages’, demonstrated how the orchestra and compositions progressed from the Renaissance period (performing Susato’s Renaissance Dances’ to Classical & Romantic periods (Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto iii Finale & Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 2nd Mov) all the way through to the 21st century orchestra featuring Defying Gravity from Wicked and the Star Wars Theme.

The kids were absolutely brilliant; they were polite and really engaged with the performance. One of the Ushers also commented that our Students were the most polite when entering the venue.

This was the first time any of the kids have seen a live orchestra – they were fascinated.
