‘The Big Idea’ Careers workshop with The Talent Foundry

On Friday 23rd February, Lee from the Talent Foundry carried out a workshop to around 50 of our Y7 students, in conjunction with Dell Technologies.
The Talent Foundry works with multiple well-known employers such as Dell, Network Rail and Siemens to help deliver workshops to students on social mobility, helping them discover their amazing talents and develop valuable new employability skills.
Throughout the session the students tackled a number of group tasks set by Dell Technologies to prepare them for the final ‘big idea’ challenge. The tasks included:
  • A listening/ response activity
  • Reading body language challenge
  • Identifying modern technologies as a group
  • Identifying careers as a group from a list of transferable skills, interests and personality traits the subject would need
The students’ final challenge was to come up with a solution to a social problem using technology and produce a marketing campaign. They then gave a presentation to their peers about their products.
Some of the stand out ideas were:
  • A mental health support pillow
  • A vape that actually has health benefits, rather than damaging health
  • Robots that help to clear up rubbish
It was great to see our students developing vital life skills like presenting, communication, team building, time management and creativity.

They had a fantastic session and the students conducted themselves brilliantly!

We want to say a big thank you to Lee and the Talent Foundry for delivering the workshop to our students and helping them on the way with their career choices!
