Year 7 students were recently invited to visit Madina Mosque in Sheffield – an annual trip organised by the RE department. This special visit gave students the opportunity to explore the largest mosque in South Yorkshire.
Throughout the visit, students discussed how the mosque is used as a vibrant community space, its significance to members of the Muslim faith, and how Muslims practise prayer and worship within the mosque setting.
Madina Mosque is an impressive and welcoming place with extensive facilities, including two large prayer halls, classrooms, burial services, a library, a washing area, and even a kitchen for community celebrations such as weddings.
The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Students were especially fascinated by the mosque’s beautiful interior, including the stunning dome, a huge chandelier, and a wall proudly displaying the 99 names of Allah.
This visit forms part of the Wickersley Partnership Trust Enrichment Promise, which ensures that all students have access to meaningful experiences beyond the classroom. Opportunities like this are designed to broaden students’ horizons, promote cultural understanding, and support personal development alongside academic learning.
It was a valuable and enriching experience for everyone involved.
