In December, Year 8 students had the opportunity to visit the Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Gurdwara in Sheffield as part of their entitlement curriculum. This visit was a wonderful example of the Wickersley Partnership Trust Enrichment Promise, offering meaningful learning beyond the classroom and helping to broaden students’ understanding of the world around them.
At the heart of the Religious Education curriculum is the belief that first-hand experiences enhance learning. Visiting places of worship plays a vital role in helping students develop a deeper understanding of faith, belief and lived religious practice, and the visit to the Gurdwara provided valuable insight into Sikhism and its values.
In the afternoon, learning continued with an urban fieldwork study led by the Geography department. Students walked along the Five Weirs Way into Sheffield city centre, completing a range of fieldwork activities to investigate the question: Does land use and environmental quality vary along a transect from the city centre to the rural/urban fringe? This hands-on experience allowed students to practise key fieldwork skills that will be revisited at GCSE level for those who choose to continue studying Geography.
It was a fantastic day of learning beyond the classroom – well done, Year 8!
