This week, we were kindly invited to perform at the Rotherham Civic Theatre as part of a non-competitive dance showcase. The event brought together students from primary schools through to colleges, all of whom performed a range of spectacular dances.
The showcase provided students with an opportunity to perform, create, and choreograph work in a variety of dance styles and genres based on a given stimulus. For the primary schools, this stimulus was linked to books they had been reading in school. As part of the event, we were also gifted a small selection of wonderful books for Clifton students to enjoy and access.
In addition, several primary-aged students were awarded the opportunity to receive a one-year scholarship at the Dance Factory, an incredibly generous gesture and a fantastic opportunity for those young performers.
After numerous conversations with Rotherham School Games, we decided that this would be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything Clifton stands for and showcase the diversity, talent, and community spirit within our school.
Our students performed three pieces:
- Contemporary/Street Duet
- Year 11 BTEC Examination Dance Performance
- Slovakian Cultural Dance
Amalie and Isabella delivered a beautiful and moving contemporary duet to Golden Hour by JVKE. Their performance demonstrated excellent technique, creativity, and choreography, and they represented the school exceptionally well. A truly outstanding performance, they are a real credit to Clifton.
Sabina, Lucy, Sara, and Anna performed a captivating Slovakian group dance, proudly showcasing their culture through vibrant movement, colourful costumes, and impressive footwork. Their energy and enthusiasm had the audience clapping along and thoroughly engaged throughout. It was wonderful to see the girls sharing an important part of their heritage and demonstrating what can be achieved through dedication and hard work.
Finally, our Year 11 BTEC Dance group, Isabel, Ellis, Ben, Lola, and Lacey, gave a spectacular performance that perfectly reflected the commitment and passion they have shown throughout their studies. They performed with energy, confidence, and smiles from start to finish, giving nothing less than 110%. It was both a brilliant and emotional occasion, marking the final time this group will perform together as Clifton students. They should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved, and I wish them every success in the future.
We are incredibly proud of all the students who represented Clifton for their talent, professionalism, and enthusiasm throughout the event. They were a credit to both themselves and the school.
