It’s been a busy and exciting start to the sporting year at Clifton, with students across all year groups showing outstanding teamwork, determination, and enthusiasm both in fixtures and clubs.

Our football teams have hit the ground running this term!

Year 7 are finding their feet, showing brilliant effort and commitment as they learn positions and responsibilities.

Year 8 remain unbeaten with fantastic wins against St Pius, Wickersley, and Thrybergh, with Isaac scoring a hat-trick in every game. Special mentions go to Archie and Asumi, who continue to represent Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday academies.

Year 9 have impressed with their attitude and effort, narrowly missing out on results but showing great resilience and teamwork.

Year 10 started strong with a thrilling 7-6 win over Wickersley and are hoping for a long cup run.

Year 11 are unbeaten so far, securing victories over Wickersley (3-2) and Thrybergh (10-0) with dominant performances.

Our netballers have shown incredible teamwork and spirit this term.

The Year 7 and 8 teams played their first-ever fixture against Oakwood, ending in a fantastic 4-4 draw. The Y8s supported and coached the Y7s throughout, showing great leadership.

Year 9 and 10 players also impressed against Thrybergh, with over 30 girls taking part and representing the school brilliantly.

Climbing Club has grown rapidly since September, with sessions now full to capacity. Students of all abilities are developing their strength, confidence, and problem-solving skills – from first-time climbers to those racing up the wall!

Our KS3 girls football team performed brilliantly in the Utilita Rotherham United Girls Cup, reaching the quarter-finals after strong wins over Rawmarsh and St Pius.

Meanwhile, the KS4 team fought hard against Thrybergh in a thrilling match, securing a 4-2 win thanks to goals from Ashleigh and Niana – and a superb penalty save from Aakifah!

Both Badminton and Basketball clubs continue to thrive, with high numbers at every session. Students enjoy the opportunity to play for fun, fitness, or competition. Basketball, in particular, remains a highlight across both key stages, with after-school fixtures planned later this term.

Our Year 9 Sports Leaders are busy preparing to help run the upcoming Cross Country Championships, supporting over 600 primary pupils.

Meanwhile, Year 8 students are taking part in Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, including kayaking, archery, and climbing – developing teamwork, confidence, and resilience.

From the football pitch to the climbing wall, Clifton students have shown what it means to work hard, play fair, and represent their school with pride. What a fantastic start to the sporting year!
