Last Friday, Clifton welcomed hundreds of students, staff and families to celebrate Culture Day, recognising the wide range of cultures represented across our school community.
First introduced in 2023, our Cultural Exchange events have quickly become a much-loved part of the school calendar. The day encourages everyone to wear heritage dress, share food, and celebrate the stories and traditions connected to their cultures and countries of family origin.
During the event, students also marked their countries of origin on the “We Are Clifton” map, creating a powerful visual representation of the diversity within our school.
Culture Day provides a valuable opportunity to bring the school community together, and celebrate and strengthen relationships between students, families and staff. It was wonderful to see such positive engagement and pride in the cultures that help shape Clifton.
Mrs Smith, Headteacher at Clifton Community School, said: “Reflecting on our Culture Day, I am filled with immense pride. The atmosphere was nothing short of exceptional. The unwavering commitment demonstrated by our staff, students, parents, and carers – along with the support of the wider community – has been truly inspiring. It has been a distinct privilege to celebrate our shared heritage with you all.”
Mariamu, Year 9 student, added:
“This event is so magical and it gets people to embrace their own countries and love their country. It allows people to show their own culture and food, and I think it is amazing for everyone to embrace.”
Araz, parent of a CCS student, commented:
“The event is so beautiful. There are all different types of people here. You get to meet lots of new people and culture, and get to try new foods. Every culture’s food had a different flavour and there was great communication between the people here. It’s the best event I’ve ever seen, it’s so beautiful.”
A big thank you to everyone who helped organise Culture Day and to all the students, families and staff who joined us to make the event such a memorable celebration.
