On Thursday 4th July, Clifton Community School once again hosted our annual Battle of the Bands event, with even more schools getting involved! Our four judges – Ruth Lockwood (Professional Musician & Musical Theatre Performer), Liam O’Shea (Rotherham Music Service), Ben Paramore (Head of Music Technology at TRC) and Lizzie Mason (Instrumental Tutor) – had many difficult decisions to make!
The evening started with Group A (Intermediate) including:
- 90 Seconds To Jupiter – Clifton Community School
- The Eclipse – Saint Bernard’s High School
- Banned Soul – Clifton Community School
- Junction 35 – Winterhill
Amp3d Up – Clifton Community School - The Chorus – Saint Bernard’s High School
Â
The judges were amazed by the sound of the less experienced group – they really set the tone for the evening. Clifton’s very own 90 Seconds To Jupiter took the win for this group, with The Chorus from Saint Bernard’s placing 2nd.Â
Group B (Advanced) really was a tough competition. We really did not envy the judges with this one. This included:
- Myopia – Rawmarsh Community School
- Pelican Crossing – Oakwood High School
- Beautiful Carrot – Wickersley School
- Don’t Shoot The Messenger – Winterhill
- Rebirth – Thrybergh Academy
- Lulu – Clifton Community School
- Adolescent Aces – Saint Bernard’s High School
Â
The judges debated (argued) over who would be crowned the winners while we were treated to a performance by Ruth Lockwood. Oakwood’s Pelican Crossing took the crown for this one, with Saint Bernards taking home a second Runner Up trophy.Â
All of the students were absolutely brilliant and really did themselves proud. We’re looking forward to next year already!
