On Wednesday, Year 10 faced Wingfield in the first round of the Cup. The team went into the game full of confidence after starting the year with a win against Wickersley and a draw against Rawmarsh last week.
The match began at a fast pace, and captain Bayan got Clifton off to a brilliant start. Cutting inside, he fired the ball into the net to give Clifton an early lead. The team continued to dominate possession and create chances, with Bayan scoring his second goal to make it 2-0. However, Wingfield pulled one back just before half time after a scramble in the Clifton box.
The second half was more evenly matched, with opportunities at both ends. Midway through the half, the ball fell to Sadiq on the edge of the box. He skilfully skipped past his opponent before firing into the bottom left corner to make it 3-1. Wingfield scored again with six minutes remaining, setting up a tense finish, but Clifton defended well to secure a 3-2 victory and a place in the next round.
It was an excellent team performance, with some great football played through midfield. Bayan, Adil, Oussey, Nifemi and Martins worked hard to win the midfield battle and help drive the team forward. Well done to the whole squad on a fantastic result!
